Why I Chose Early Childhood Education

I chose early childhood education because I believe these early years are incredibly important and truly foundational for a child’s future learning and development. I love being part of those early learning experiences and witnessing “aha” moments, when a child finally grasps a concept that helps them make sense of the world around them. Those moments feel meaningful because I know they will carry those skills with them for years to come.

I have always loved working with children. I began babysitting at a young age and grew up spending time with younger cousins, which naturally built my comfort and joy in caring for children. My passion for this field has also been deeply influenced by my mom, who was a phenomenal teacher for over 30 years. Watching her dedication and love for her students inspired me, and I’ve learned so much from her about what it means to be a patient, caring, and intentional educator.

In my current pre-K classroom, I find so much joy in watching children grow. I love seeing their “aha” moments as they begin to recognize letters, write their names, and engage in back-and-forth conversations. It is amazing to hear their thoughts and see all of the knowledge developing in such young minds. Every day reminds me how capable and full of potential young children truly are.

As an educator, I strive to be intentional, kindhearted, present, and available. I want each child to feel seen, supported, and valued in my care. My goal is to create a classroom where children feel safe to explore, learn, and grow at their own pace.

My commitment to early childhood education is also rooted in my family and faith. I believe children are truly gifts from God, entrusted to us with purpose and care. As it is written in Psalm 127:3, “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him.” This belief shapes how I approach my work each day—with gratitude, patience, and a deep sense of responsibility to nurture and guide young learners.

My Teaching Philosophy

I believe young children learn best in environments where they feel safe, valued, and supported. My role as an educator is to create a classroom that encourages curiosity, independence, and confidence while also providing structure and guidance.

I view children as capable, active learners who grow through hands-on experiences, meaningful interactions, and consistent relationships with caring adults. I believe learning happens naturally through play, exploration, and everyday moments, and it is my responsibility to support and extend that learning intentionally.

As an educator, I strive to be present, patient, and responsive to each child’s individual needs. I aim to meet children where they are developmentally and help them grow at their own pace, celebrating progress along the way.

Guided by the values of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), I am committed to providing developmentally appropriate practice, fostering positive relationships, and creating an inclusive classroom where all children feel a sense of belonging.

Keeping Children Safe: My Role as a Mandated Reporter

As a future early childhood educator, I understand how important it is to keep children safe. I recognize my responsibility as a mandated reporter and the role I play in protecting children from abuse and neglect.

I will stay aware of any signs that may indicate a child is being harmed and take those concerns seriously. If I ever have a reasonable suspicion, I will follow the proper steps by documenting what I observe and reporting it according to state laws and center policies. I understand that my job is not to investigate, but to report concerns so the child can receive the help they need.

Following the values of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), I am committed to always acting in the best interest of the child and advocating for their safety and well-being.

My Commitment to Children and Families

I am committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where all children feel valued and supported. I believe that every child is unique and deserves opportunities to learn and grow at their own pace.

I will work to build strong, positive relationships with children and their families, knowing how important trust and communication are in early childhood education. I will use developmentally appropriate practices and continue to reflect on my teaching so I can grow and improve.

I am also committed to ongoing professional development and to upholding the standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in my daily practice.

Teaching with Integrity and Care (Ethical Code Statement)

As an early childhood educator, I will follow the ethical standards outlined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). I am committed to supporting the well-being, dignity, and development of every child in my care.

I will maintain professionalism by respecting confidentiality, building trusting relationships, and treating all children and families with fairness and respect. I will also work collaboratively with colleagues to create a positive and supportive environment.

In my teaching, I will make decisions that reflect honesty, responsibility, and a strong commitment to doing what is best for children. I understand that being an ethical educator requires ongoing reflection and accountability.
